Check the controller’s datasheet against the module’s temperature coefficients, not just the STC values. How to Tell Which Scenario You’re In
If you’re still unsure, ask yourself two questions. First: who owns the system after installation? If you do, you’re an integrator. If the installer does, you’re likely a distributor or EPC. Second: what happens if a product fails? If you need a replacement controller in 72 hours, you’re an integrator or distributor. If you need a formal failure report and a contamination analysis, you’re an EPC. There’s no right or wrong—just a different set of priorities.
And don’t forget the quiet signals. From the outside, comparing solar charge controller suppliers looks like comparing spec sheets. The reality is that support, warranty logistics, and system integration experience often matter more than the headline MPPT efficiency. That’s true whether you’re buying one unit or a thousand.
One last thing: trust your instincts on transparency. If a supplier is vague about lead times, warranty conditions, or test methods, that’s a red flag. The best suppliers are the ones who put the full cost picture in front of you without you having to ask. That’s the kind of partner that makes a procurement manager’s job easier—and it’s worth more than a 0.2% efficiency difference.
